Preparing for Spring’s Coming
Spring is slowly coming to us, removing winter’s signs from our land. Snow and ice recede day by day, though winter reminds us from time to time that it still hovers in the wings to give us an occasional blast of north wind or a snow storm. We have to be prepared for winter storms way on into March, perhaps even into April, keeping our shovels and boots at the ready.
It is so in our spiritual lives. Storms still come to our souls even though we are faithful in our Christian living. We daily need to renew our soul’s strength, to rest quietly in God’s presence, and to prepare for life’s storms. We need to come to our Bible reading and recitation of psalms on a regular basis, to intercede for others in need, and to meditate on God so that we grow in our relationship with the Divine.
Our daily quiet times help us to respond to life’s difficulties with dignity and trust in the Lord. They teach us to put ourselves in God’s hands and to anchor our spiritual roots deep in Holy Spirit so that we are not battered about by every emotional or distressing gust of wind. We learn to place our souls at our quiet centre, to respond to hardship and stress with calm, and to delight in God’s presence with us. We learn to give thanks for the opportunity to gain more trust in God, and to know that whatever happens is for our spiritual growth and benefit.
Are you faithful to your daily quiet time?
Do you see a sign of spring and new life in your soul?
Name the sign you see and give thanks to God.
Do you experience times of winter cold in your spirit?
Name one such experience or discouragement.
Give thanks for the knowledge that God uses such times to assist your growth in trust and faith.
