Meditation for February 2009

Judith reads: QuickTime

The creative forces of the world make for life; there is no deadly poison in them. Wisdom 1: 14

The life made by the Creative Force takes many forms. Creativity may be seen in watercolours and oils, in poetry and prose, in baking bread or making breakfast for the family. Creativity is the joyful act of making something new and may be seen in the discovery of new medicines, inventions and technologies, as well as in forms of art.

God’s Creative Force within each of us causes our creative story to be written in a unique way. Our life will be written in the voice that the Creator gives to us and, guided by the Holy Spirit, we will tell our tale and weave our tapestry.

We are sent into the world with a job to do, a life to be lived, and a creation to be made. Many of us don’t click into our vocation until many years have gone by. Along our journey, God reminds us of our calling with gentle messages. Sometimes, especially as we get older and time for repeated opportunities become shorter, the messages become more urgent and insistent.

The creative forces of the world bring life. The creative forces of the world, the universe, the Word of God, the Light of life, bring life. The creative gift from the Holy Spirit is to be used to bring life, hope, light, joy and peace to others. It is a joy, a word of hope, a light to the path, and a way to the soul’s centre and God’s love.

It is urgent that we respond to God’s vocation for us; opening our spirit to hear and respond to God’s call. My own creative call from God is to write though I did not become aware of it and follow it until I was in my 50’s. I wish I had started sooner but I am glad I did not delay any longer. My creativity continues to grow and develop as I continue to open myself to hear God’s call to me.
Do you know what God has called you to do in this life on earth? Have you begun to follow God’s vocation for you? Is there something you desire to do but haven’t yet made a start because you are afraid to try it for fear of failure, or have not begun because you think it is beyond your capabilities? The creative desire is within you because it has been planted there by the Holy Spirit. You owe it to God, yourself, and the world to explore your creative desires to see where God will lead you and what unique creativity he has for you to perform.

Pray about this today and ask God to show you what he would have you do for him; write down the answer you receive and take one first step to begin your creative journey. I pray that you will hear God’s call to you and follow your vocation.
