Judith reads:

"Humility is grace, a power of the soul," says Carolyn Myss in her book, Entering the Castle, p.123.

Grace is described in the Gage Canadian Dictionary, as "the condition of being influenced and favoured by God."

When I tried to think of a person whom I know who has the quality of being humble, I thought of Sister Helena, a sister of the Anglican Order of St. John the Divine in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She is quiet and peaceful; she is not forceful with her opinions; she exudes the essence of holiness but doesn't come off as being self-righteous or full of herself. I would say that she is, indeed, influenced by God. When one is in her presence, one feels blessed by that.

Outwardly, one might not consider her as being favoured by God, for she is blind from glaucoma. But this appears to have made her all the more peaceful and humble. Blindness seems to have become a way for her to be more private with God. She is in a special place with God, withdrawn into her prayer room with the doors closed so that she is able to give herself completely to God.

Why is it that when one is truly humble, it enables one's soul to be powerful? I believe that being humble allows the person to be quiet and peaceful within, which gives the person strength and dignity.

There is no need to rush to be right; there is no need for bravado or bombast; there is no need to push another person over in order to be number one. One gradually grows in maturity of spirit to become one's whole and holy self in order to be totally at one with God.

Being humble gives one a strength of spirit. One's strength isn't taken up with over-riding others; with being better or more successful than others; or with being jealous of other's accomplishments. When others are successful this becomes a joy to the person who is humble; the humble person is glad that God gives success to others—it is a cause for rejoicing and gladness of heart.

The soul delights in God's glory; the soul delights in God's grace, whether in oneself or others. Grace is the influence and favour of God.

I pray that God's grace will come pouring into my soul; that the essence of grace may overflow to those around me; I pray for God's healing grace to flow abundantly into all the world in 2011, giving humility and strength of spirit to all humanity.
